Drug Description
Dicyclomine injection is an antispasmodic and anticholinergic (antimuscarinic) agent. The active component o this medication is Dicyclomine HCl. It also has other inactive elements such as glycerin, propylene glycol, methylparaben, propylparaben, sorbitol solution, purified water, sucrose, with D&C Red #33, FD&C Red #40, FD&C Blue #1, FD&C Yellow #6 for coloring, and berry flavoring.
It blocks a chemical found in the smooth muscle of the stomach and intestines. As a result they lighten up and you have deduced cramping.
Indication
Dicyclomine injection is given for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome. It may be used for other diseases as well. It is a condition when the patient feels abdominal pain, along with diarrhea and constipation and stress.
Contraindications
Dicyclomine injection should not be administered in patients having obstructive uropathy, severe ulcerative colitis, obstructive disease of the gastrointestinal tract, glaucoma, reflux esophagitis, acute hemorrhage myasthenia gravis and in nursing mothers. This medicine is also contraindicated in infants less than 6 months of age and patients having hypersensitivity to Dicyclomine hydrochloride or other ingredients in it.
Dicyclomine Dosing Information
A dose of 20 mg IM 4 times a day has been recommended for parenteral use in adults. Give oral treatment immediately possible. The starting dose of oral medicine for adults is 20 mg orally 4 times a day. As maintenance, patient can take 40 mg orally 4 times a day.
